Admin post: On Nicknames.

Co-workers have started pining for nicknames, but they're all civilians, and civilians lack the built in "first name" of a military rank.  I'm questioning what I should do for them, particularly given that  approximately 95 percent of the people with whom I interact at this point aren't in the military.  First initial and then nickname?  That's what I went with below, but I'm reserving the right to change it at any moment.  If you feel strongly, weigh in in the comments section.  This seems better crowdsourced.

The initial thing isn't a bad solution. Unless you want to call them all Civilian [Nickname], but if there's a lot of 'em, that would get pretty boring.

Mark, one year at a PRT eliminated your ability to produce nicknames that do not include a military rank? Did Wonder Woman need a rank? The Incredible Hulk? Prince? I think you are up to the challenge of providing appropriate nicknames with neither initials nor ranks.

Sure, Wonder Woman is a good name -- but Colonel Wonder is better, no? Lieutenant Hulk? Sergeant Prince? Better.

Treat them as radio callsigns.
Preferably two or three syllables.

If someone has a particular style of bathing suit, especially if not appropriate for their body mass index, they just became "Speedo".

Demote "Princess" to "Duchess". It's less generic but still makes the point about entitlement. :D
